"Interval of Imprint"
I
believe that we are each a product of our environment. My artwork
is symbolic of family ties and relationships between people. The
image above is a sculptural piece called "Interval of Imprint"
The piece is suspended in air off of a branch on a wall. I carved
the female pelvis out of porcelain. Cradled inside is a creature
that is half human, half bird (porcelain). The natural nest
supports the creature. This is a symbolic work that relates the
human experience to other animals. Mothers are the most integral
part of a family. Without them, we would not exist. As
humans, we must have a place to "nest" in our state of fragility.
We need a nurturer to care for us to help us onto our feet. Baby
birds and many animals hold the mother sacred as well. In my
eyes, mothers are the strongest, most necessary part of a
family.
